Nepal registered their first victory in the ongoing SAFF U17 Women’s Championship, edging hosts Bhutan 2-1 in a thrilling contest on Friday at the Changlimithang Stadium.

After suffering a heavy 7-0 defeat to India in the opener, Nepal made a strong comeback despite a shaky start.

Bhutan stunned Nepal with a 42nd-minute strike from Künden Sogyal to take the lead, but the hosts couldn’t hold on beyond halftime.

Striker Sahara Limbu turned the game around for Nepal, scoring twice in the 58th and 76th minutes to complete a remarkable comeback and secure all three points.

Nepal will next face defending champions Bangladesh on August 24, while Bhutan will take on powerhouse India the same day.

Only four teams are participating in the double round-robin format, with the side finishing top of the table to be crowned champions.
